Abstract

Fundamental limits provide the absolute minimum or maximum achievable by an antenna while a fixed set of physical parameters (e.g. space, material properties, etc.) are given. They are also instrumental in comparison of the different antenna designs. A method to maximize/minimize the performance of the antenna is to use optimization algorithms. It appears that there is some confusion between the fundamental limits and optimized results. In this communication, we try to clarify the distinction of these terms while inviting others to comment and debate on this point.
