Abstract

Brain abscess represents one of the more serious infectious diseases. Mortality and morbidity have decreased with the advent of antibiotic therapy. In the preantibiotic era otogenic brain abscess were more frequently encountered in cases of acute otitis media, in recent years otogenic focus was noticed in patients of chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma. A case of brain abscess in a ...-year-old female presenting with ... was diagnosed . A computed tomography (CT) revealed a mass over the left temporal lobe. A surgical drainage was performed. Cultures of the obtained material later grew Proteus mirabilis and Actinomyces meyeri. Antibiotic therapy was carried on for .. months postoperatively. The patient improved but retained a conductive hearing loss.
