Abstract

Aiming to support in-service teachers in implementing inquiry-teaching with technology, we designed an EdX MOOC based on the Knowledge Community and Inquiry framework. We implemented rich external collaborative activities and embedded them seamlessly into the EdX platform with LTI. Unexpectedly, a large amount of learners from Higher Education and other non-K12 backgrounds joined the course.

We analyze the video viewing and discussion patterns of different Special Interest Groups, and show that the Higher Education students, and the K-12 teachers, have distinctly different ways of approaching the course. We conclude that the particular design of the course catered well to a heterogenous user group.
