Shrey is one of my few self-motivated students who are prepared to go
beyond the necessary requirements of the curriculum. Despite research
not being a mandatory part of the undergraduate program, he spent extra
hours of diligent work on a research project, driven by his interests. I
was pleased to accept him as a research student when he expressed his
interest in artificial intelligence at the beginning of his junior year.
As I had more one-on-one interactions with him, I discovered that he had
definite goals. He planned his work well in advance and tenaciously
adhered to his schedule. Efficiently balancing his classes, exams, and
project, he exhibited extraordinary organisation skills.
Shrey is a prolific researcher marked by his persistent efforts. At
times, his research lead to a dead end, but he didn’t succumb to the
problems. For instance, initially, his project drew its essence from
sociological theories leaving little scope for extensive experiments
through computer models. To overcome this ordeal, he read numerous
articles from diverse fields that eventually required him to learn and
apply game theoretical algorithms. In an interdisciplinary project,
amalgamating pieces from distinct fields is a laborious task but he rose
up to the challenge. He wholeheartedly immersed himself into the project
and delivered exceptional results. [A line or two about any
particular incident, example or a statement regarding the project /
research area and how I performed]
It was a pleasure working with him as he was always open to criticism
and acknowledged my suggestions solemnly, one of his remarkable
qualities that I appreciate. If he had a contrarian perspective on a
topic, he presented his case politely, logically supporting his
arguments. His attention to detail was impeccable and he could perform
routine work as competently as any other creative and innovative work.
In our interactions during the lecture sessions, he came forth as a
curious and inquisitive student. He often asked questions promoting
constructive discussions that clarified complicated topics. As a
teacher, I could clearly gauge that he was able to comprehend even the
most complex problems and the result is visible in his stellar academic
record.
personal level, Shrey has an amiable personality that creates a healthy
work environment. When it comes to his work, he is extremely
disciplined, a characteristic that he developed as an athletic tennis
player. In many discussions that I had with him, he emerged as a mature
and a well-rounded student, sensitive and concerned about the issues
surrounding him as well as his batch-mates. He actively helps his
juniors to find their area of interests and motivates them to
participate in research projects. My freshman and sophomore year
students regularly consult him for academic advice and I invariably
receive positive feedbacks from them.
In conclusion,
Shrey is an intelligent, passionate, diligent, and a confident student.
With the resources and guidance at your university, he can further
advance in his interests and accomplish his goals. I would place him in
the top 1% of the students I have interacted with so far, giving him my
highest recommendation, without any reservation.
