Abstract
ABSTRACT: The
development of renewable biofuels from platform molecules facilitates a direct
catalytic approach for manufacturing liquid biofuels at modest conditions. Hydrogen
has many useful applications in the petrochemical industry currently as well as
the growing field of biochemical production. It can be efficiently obtained
from formic acid photodecomposition which is a much simpler, safer and cost
effective method of hydrogen production. It can be applied to the levulinic
acid hydrogenation process to produce γ-Valerolactone (GVL)
as seen in the reaction scheme below:
