LEED Certified Building Versus Non-LEED Buildings Energy Consumption
By: Ozgur L. Akkas, Github: oa691, NYU ID: oa691
Problem Description: Do Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certified buildings show substantial energy savings compared to the non-LEED certified buildings in the same neighborhood? What is the energy use among the NYC LEED certified buildings constructed and certified in the past 10 years? How do they compare to non-LEED buildings in the same district that share the same zipcode?
Data: Two types of data are available. One is the New York Benchmark database that include building information such as borough, building footprint, energy use intensity per unit area [BTU/ft^2], and zip codes. The other set of data is from US Green Building Council that shows the building address, type of building and level of certification with respect to LEED version. Both are CSV files. Benchmark data is ready to use. United States Green Building Council (USGBC) data is needs to include zipcode column for buildings.
