Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) happen as a result of infection, side effects to medications or of unknown etiology. Carbamazepine is a common cause (SJS). Good history taking is crucial if clinically indicated treatment with carbamazepine. carbamazepine should be avoided with previous history of severe drug reaction like mast cell activation syndrome.
To our knowledge, this is the first description of a cytomegalovirus end-organ infection complicating severe COVID-19 disease in an immunocompetent host. Suspicion threshold for opportunistic coinfections should be lowered in severe COVID-19. Serum CMV polymerase chain reaction and colonoscopy should be discussed in presence of persistent digestive disturbances.
Rabies is zoonotic diseases and can cause progressive encephalitis and death. Ante-mortem diagnosis is challenging, and treatment is supportive. We report a young patient presented with classic furious rabies; the diagnosis was confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction assays on saliva samples.
We report a case of Plasmablastic Lymphoma occurring in a 45-year-old HIV-negative woman involving extra nodal sites including ovary, breast and adrenal glands. Prognostic outcomes are generally dismal. On relapse, she received conventional as well as novel therapies and is disease free now, two years post allogenic haploidentical transplantation.
Although myxoma represents the most frequent non-malignant cardiac primary tumor; it is extremely rare met in the left ventricle. Clinical features of the neoplasm extend from symptomless to critical signs of either ischemia or embolism. We describe a case of a huge left ventricular myxoma presented with acute myocardial infarction.
This case report describes a mandibular ameloblastoma with both BRAF V600E mutation and rare hypercalcemia. The patient without distant metastasis underwent subtotal mandibulectomy using double flaps of fibula and anterolateral thigh. A whole body computed tomography scan taken 69 months after surgery revealed neither recurrence nor metastasis.
Asymptomatic cardiac neoplasms are often diagnosed incidentally. Right atrial mass close to septum needs careful evaluation and multimodality imaging to manage appropriately. This case highlights the utilization of multimodality imaging and heart team approach in the management of the right atrial mass.
The present case report discusses about a male patient with closed-globe traumatic cataract and isolated posterior capsule rupture. There are limited studies reporting about such type of complication. The management with phacoemulsification and combined pars plana vitrectomy with intraocular lens reverse optic capture was performed.
We present a rare case of ectopic pregnancy in a woman using IUD. IUD leads to mild inflammation of uterus, nearby fallopian tube and obstruction in conveyance of ovum. Suspicion of ovarian pregnancy should be considered in a woman using IUD with abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, positive pregnancy test.
Three COVID-19 cases were simultaneously confirmed as deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Ultrasound-guided IVCF implantation is an effective method that can be considered as a precautionary strategy for preventing lethal pulmonary embolism occurrence, especially for critical DVT-COVID-19 patients who are not suitable to be transferred to a routine X-ray operation room.
Three COVID-19 patients who were received lopinavir/ritonavir plus favipiravir got to improved without any severe adverse events. Two patients harboring high fever, severe pneumonia and respiratory failure obtained dramatic improvement. The combination therapy might be a treatment option; earlier therapy onset may have needed to avoid lung sequela.
Initially, Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus is strikingly thought to be manifested by respiratory illness such as cough, chest tightness, and dysponea. Therefore, we are presenting a confirmed case of COVID-19 who developed acute pancreatitis-a rare manifestation during disease process without any known aggravating factors
