Abstract

Onosma velutinum Boiss. (Boraginaceae) is an endemic plant from Türkiye. We studied the effects of GA3 (0-500 ppm range), moist chilling (15 days, 3 and 6 months) and their combinations under three temperature (20, 20/10, 25/15 °C) and two light conditions (Darkness/Photoperiod) on the breaking of dormancy. GA3 at 500-ppm concentration resulted in 69.5 % germination, and dormancy was broken by six months of moist chilling with 78 % germination. Seed germination was significantly higher at photoperiod. MGT were also reduced significantly after six months of moist chilling. Our results suggested that seeds have Physiological Dormancy, which could be broken by GA3 or long-term moist chilling. Dormancy breaking requirements of Onosma velutinum, could be used as an aid in future management and/or gene bank storage of this endemic species.
