Abstract
Hyperkalemia is a frequent complication among kidney transplant
recipients that can lead to fatal arrhythmias. The causes of
hyperkalemia post kidney transplant are multifactorial and often are
drug-induced, and include decreased glomerular filtration rate, tubular
dysfunction, and impaired sodium delivery in the distal nephron. This
review will discuss pathophysiology and management of both acute and
chronic hyperkalemia in kidney transplant recipients.
